I’m A Celebrity 2017 contestant Jack Maynard has said sorry for ‘inflammatory’ tweets.
The 22-year-old YouTube vlogger has become the latest social media star to have old messages resurface.
Some of the postings date back six years but it hasn’t stopped them being shared online.
In the Twitter messages, posted by The Sun newspaper, Jack is seen to use racist, ableist and homophobic slurs against other users of the social networking website.
Responding to the messages, a representative for Jack said: “Jack is ashamed of these tweets, many were deleted a long time ago and were sent in response to a neighbour who was bullying him. Jack was a lot younger when he posted them in 2012 but realises that age is no defence.
“He would never use that language now and realises that, as someone who was bullied himself, this kind of retaliatory, inflammatory, insulting language is completely unacceptable.”
A spokesperson for ITV said: “Jack has issued a full apology and has deleted the tweets that he sent.”
Jack Maynard has become the first ever YouTube vlogger to go on I’m A Celebrity. Speaking before entering, he said he couldn’t wait to share with his camp mates what life working on the Internet is really like.
Readily admitting he is chuffed to bits to have been picked ahead of so many other rival vloggers to go in the famous ITV Jungle, the 22-year-old Internet sensation added he hoped to do the social media world ‘proud’.
Meanwhile, Jack’s fellow celeb camper Amir Khan has also had old tweets come back to haunt him.
I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here continues nightly at 9PM on ITV.
