Great British Bake Off spoilers: Bakers take on tricky cake challenges

The Great British Bake Off 2018 is back tonight and here are some first spoilers from the latest episode

Last week saw Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood return as judges of The Great British Bake Off when it returns to screens tonight on Channel 4.

Prue and Paul will be joined by GBBO hosts Sandi Toksvig OBE and Noel Fielding for their second series together.

As always, they’ll be ready with a pertinent pep talk, a helpful hand or just a sympathetic shoulder to cry on, for the ninth series overall of the cooking competition.

Last week saw 12 of the best amateur bakers in Britain start on their journey to whisk, knead, ice, beat and bake their way through classic British cakes, perfect patisserie, Danish delights, sticky caramel constructions and elaborate layered puddings.

In order to take the Bake Off Crown, they must master 30 challenges carefully designed by judges Paul and Prue to test their limits.

Last week’s opening show saw Imelda become the first baker to be sent home after biscuit week opened the series, while Manon won the first Star Baker award.

Tonight, it’s week two and the remaining 11 bakers face Cake Week – kicking off with a crowd-pleasing signature challenge.

Next, the bakers turn green with Prue’s first technical challenge, a complicated cake with a very unusual ingredient.

Finally, an ambitious chocolate collared showstopper turns up the heat in the tent. Who will rise to the various challenges – and who will melt under the pressure? Three challenges, three chances to win star baker, three chances to avoid leaving the tent…

At the end, judges Prue and Paul will have some decisions to make as one more baker is sent home…

Great British Bake Off 2018 airs tonight at 8PM on Channel 4.

Meanwhile, The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice is returning with Jo Brand staying as host, airing on Friday nights on Channel 4.
