BBC One shelves shows following Ed Westwick rape allegations

BBC One’s drama Ordeal by Innocence has been shelved following allegations made against Ed Westwick.

Gossip Girl star Ed was due to star in the series, based on the Agatha Christie novel, this Christmas.

The three-part run had been tentatively scheduled to begin in a prime time slot on Boxing Day.

Furthermore, filming on a second series of BBC Two’s White Gold – which Ed also appears in – has been suspended.

Two women have accused Ed of sexual assault with one taking her complaint to Police in the US.

He has strongly denied the claims, and wrote on Twitter this week: “It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and provably untrue social media claims, there are some in this environment who could ever conclude that I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct.

“I have absolutely not, and I am co-operating with the authorities so that they can clear my name as soon as possible.”

The BBC said: “These are serious allegations which Ed Westwick has strenuously denied.

“The BBC is not making any judgement but until these matters are resolved we will not include Ordeal by Innocence in the schedules.

“The independent production company making White Gold has informed us that Ed Westwick has paused from filming while he deals with these allegations.”
