Who is Doughnuts on The Masked Singer? Their true identity was revealed in tonight’s latest episode.

The Masked Singer UK series 3 is airing weekends on ITV.

One of the masked acts on 2022’s series is Doughnuts who was unmasked this weekend.

At the end of this week’s sixth episode, Doughnuts was revealed to be footballer Michael Owen.

Speaking after his exit, Michael revealed: “I’d never watched it before but had heard of the show. I’m not normally free on Saturday nights during the football season as I’m often travelling back from games. I have been approached to do other TV shows but I usually have a busy TV schedule and that has always meant I haven’t been able to or I hadn’t felt like the shows were a good fit.

“I have four children and they have been badgering me to do one and then this opportunity came up. When this opportunity came up I decided to say yes – but I still had to overcome a hurdle as there was the small matter of the Manchester Derby potentially being moved which would clash with one of the filming dates but thankfully everything fell into place.”

Doughnuts performed Eye Of The Tiger in their very first performance before singing Spice Up Your Life for their second outing. In week 3, Doughnuts performed Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond while week four saw a performance of Five’s Everybody Get Up.

Their clue packages included references to baking and cooking, describing themselves as “extra speedy”. The VTs also included references to Argentina, crisps, ice, goals, jockeying and birdwatching.

In a first cryptic clue to the panel, Doughnuts revealed: “As well as being sweet I’ve also been savoury”.

Then in week 2, Doughnuts offered up two lies and a truth: “I share a name that’s very close to home”, “I’ve managed to develop a range of talents” and “Something about me has been compared to royalty”.

Before the unmasking, viewers were sure Doughnuts was Michael Owen.

One wrote on Twitter: “Donut has to be Michael Owen, sings like he talks anyway #MaskedSingerUK”

Another declared confidently: “Michael Owen is doughnuts. #MaskedSinger” while a third agreed: “Doughnut is 100% Michael Owen #MaskedSingerUK”.

Michael Owen was also one of the names put forward by the panel as well as fellow football star Gary Lineker.

However Gary tweeted in response: “You’ll never see me on that show…or Strictly, ever.”

The Masked Singer UK season 3 airs Saturday evenings on ITV.

Other contestants in the show are Poodle, Chandelier, Mushroom, Snow Leopard, Bagpipes, Robobunny, Panda, Rockhopper, Firework, Traffic Cone and Lionfish.

You can watch and catch up via the ITV Hub.
