The Chase stars to battle geniuses from around the world in new series

Anne Hegerty, Mark Labbett and co will star in ITV's Are You Smarter Than A Chaser?

The stars of The Chase will reportedly travel the world and battle some of its smartest minds in a new spin-off.

ITV’s hit daytime quiz sees teams of four go head-to-head with a single Chaser to reveal who knows the most.

Five brainboxes feature on the show – Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan.

Now, having scored countless victories, they’re set to put themselves in the contestants’ shoes – by facing even more formidable foes.

According to The Sun, bosses have ordered a new spin-off series, named ‘Are You Smarter Than A Chaser?’.

It will see the Chasers go globetrotting in the US, Japan and their UK homeland to compete against even brighter rivals, including both adult and child geniuses.

In the ultimate test of their knowledge, they will also grapple with AI technology and the planet’s most advanced robots.

The programme is due to air on ITV this winter in an evening timeslot.

“The Chasers will be travelling across the world to prove that they can outsmart every living being — and robots,” the paper’s source explained.

“It’s also a lighthearted look at how we measure and judge intelligence and how children, for example, can be far cleverer than adults due to their developing brains figuring things out such as technology in ways grown ups can’t.”

Some of the Chasers are already known internationally for appearing on other adaptations of the format.

Anne – a.k.a. ‘The Governess’ – has been on The Chase Australia since it launched in 2015, with Mark and Shaun later joining her.

Meanwhile, Mark – a.k.a. ‘The Beast’ – was the sole star of The Chase USA, which ran for four seasons. Both versions air in the UK on Challenge.

The new show is ITV’s latest primetime role for The Chasers, who have been landing more and more TV work as their popularity among viewers has grown.

All five won Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief in 2017 with their take on The Wizard of Oz.

Anne now hosts her own gameshow, Britain’s Brightest Family, and was a campmate on I’m A Celebrity last year.

Mark participated in Sugar Free Farm, while Jenny – a.k.a. The Vixen – is reportedly joining the upcoming Celebrity X Factor.
