The popularity game where anyone can be anyone will be back on Channel 4 in the autumn – and this year it’s bigger and better.

In The Circle, contestants reside separately in their own apartments, with cameras watching their every move.

Never meeting one another in person, the sole way they can communicate with each other is through the titular Circle, a voice-activated social network.

Players can choose to be whomever they think will make them most popular with other players. contestant Alex Hobern won £75,000 catfishing as ‘Kate’.

Contestants rate each other frequently and unpopular players are blocked. Once blocked, and before leaving the show, the eliminated players will get to meet other players in person for the first time. Ultimately, the most popular player at the end of the series wins a cash prize.

The Circle start time

The Circle Series 2 will begin live tonight on Tuesday, September 24 on Channel 4 at 9:15PM.

Series 2 of The Circle will increase the gameplay, drama and jeopardy. Viewers will also be given greater control and increased interactivity with the game. They will be able to influence how the contestants play – leading to unexpected and surprising consequences…

Further changes for Series 2 include a longer run, weekly live shows, an increased £100,000 prize fund and a new host.

Emma Willis will front The Circle in 2019, replacing Maya Jama and Alice Levine who presented the first season in 2018.

Emma said: “I’m an avid people watcher and fascinated by the positives and negatives of social media. I got hooked on the first series and thought it was a smart format that highlights how we shouldn’t take everything on social media at face value.

“I’m delighted to be part of something that is incredibly relevant and can’t wait to join the team and see how mischievous people are prepared to be for £100,000.”
