Love Island to air two series in 2020 with new winter edition in January
Sixth series airing from South Africa early next year, followed by usual summer runITV2 has confirmed that TWO series of Love Island will air in 2020 – including a brand new winter edition.
It’s been another huge year for the smash dating contest, with its popularity showing no signs of slowing.
The fifth run has set new records, hitting the 6million viewer mark for the first time thanks to those watching online via ITV Hub.
It is also the highest-rating programme of the year among viewers aged 16-34 across all channels.
Now bosses are capitalising on Love Island’s success by giving us a double helping.
Today ITV has officially announced that not one but TWO series will air in 2020.
Bowing to popular demand for a winter edition of the show, series six will air early next year.
It will come from a brand new location, with the islanders coupling up in sunny South Africa.
Presenters are yet to be confirmed, but Caroline Flack is expected to return, with narrator Iain Stirling also reportedly in talks to continue.
The seventh series will follow in the summer months as usual, from the original villa in Spain.
Therefore, fans only have to wait around five months for their next Love Island fix following next week’s finale.
Paul Mortimer, ITV’s head of digital channels, said: “We’re delighted to be bringing an extra series of our biggest and sunniest show to the 2020 schedule.
“Love Island has proven yet again to be the perfect format that engages younger audiences.
“A new batch of young singletons will deliver some highly-anticipated post-Christmas romance and drama from our new and luxurious location.”
Angela Jain, managing director of production firm ITV Studios, added: “We love making Love Island for ITV2.
“The show’s success is testament to the magnificent production team. Now 2020 is going to have even more love than before.”
Meanwhile, the Love Island format continues to travel the globe, launching in five new countries this year.
The US version debuted this month on CBS, while the Australian version will soon be back for a second outing.
The current UK series concludes on Monday at 9.00pm on ITV2.
