Merseygirls set to dance again on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions

Troupe reportedly returning after Simon Cowell funded Julia Carlile's spinal surgery

Dance group MerseyGirls will apparently return for Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions after Simon Cowell paid for one member’s life-changing surgery.

Originally known as Just Us, the five Wirral teenagers entered the ITV variety contest in 2017.

Their audition took a poignant turn when Julia Carlile revealed it would be her “last chance” to grace the stage.

A scheduled operation for her scoliosis – curvature of the spine – meant that Julia was on the verge of losing her dance abilities.

Winning the £250,000 prize would have funded a more advanced procedure, enabling her to continue her passion.

While MerseyGirls reached the grand final, they only finished in ninth place.

However, kind-hearted Simon stepped in and said he would personally fund Julia’s surgery.

“There’s no way I would ever have her on this show and say, it’s all just about winning,” he said at the time.

“I couldn’t do that. You would do the same thing. To do nothing would be, well, I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror.”

Julia had the £175,000 operation in July 2017 and was back dancing within a matter of months.

Now, she and the MerseyGirls are set to go full circle by returning to Britain’s Got Talent.

According to the Metro, the troupe has signed up for upcoming all-stars spin-off BGT: The Champions.

“This will be Julia’s first time back on Britain’s Got Talent since the operation,” commented the newspaper’s source.

“It’s set to be really emotional.”

The Champions welcomes back several fan-favourite former hopefuls for a second shot at glory.

Successful acts from other versions of Got Talent around the world will also be taking part.

Singing sensation Susan Boyle has been confirmed as one of the contestants.

Other rumoured participants include Stavros Flatley, Boogie Storm, Collabro and Lost Voice Guy.

Meanwhile, America’s Got Talent comedian Vicky Barbolak is among supposed international contenders.

BGT: The Champions begins filming at the end of July and will air on ITV later this year.
