Maya Jama has spoken out about rumours she’s set to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 line up.
The Radio and TV host was previously linked to this year’s cast.
Now Maya has confirmed she was asked – but has turned down an offer.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Maya said: “Not for now. I think I’d want to let people know more who I am a bit more.
“I don’t want to be that one that people are like, ‘Who’s that?!'”
According to The Sun, BBC chiefs felt rising star Maya would help attract young viewers to the celebrity talent contest.
The 23-year-old, who is dating rapper Stormzy, is a co-host on BBC Radio 1 and ITV gameshow Cannonball.
She has also fronted coverage of the MOBO Awards and appeared as a contestant on last year’s revival of The Weakest Link.
“Maya would be a great contestant on the show,” a source commented. “She looks incredible, loves music and is already a big fan of the series.
“She’s had a busy start to the year after presenting at The Brits and landing a presenting slot at Radio One – and she doesn’t want to slow down.”
The current rumoured Strictly Come Dancing line up includes trio of former popstars: Ex-Blue singer Lee Ryan, Pussycat Dolls performer Ashley Roberts and Steps singer Faye Tozer.
The Strictly 2018 cast is also set to see its first YouTuber with vlogger Joe Sugg, brother of fellow online celeb Zoella, set to take to the dancefloor.
Also said to have signed up for the cast this week are BBC News journalist Kate Silverton, This Morning’s Dr Ranj, Capital FM radio DJ and TV presenter Vick Hope.
Strictly Come Dancing will begin on BBC One in September.
