Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson brands herself ‘a terrible mum’ as babies arrive

Megan Barton Hanson and Wes Nelson find themselves parents for the day on Love Island 2018 tonight.

In a favourite Love Island task, each of the couples are given baby dolls to look after for the day.

However Megan moans in the Beach Hut: “I did not expect parenthood to be this hard. I can barely look after myself at 24, let alone a new-born baby.”

Later, a text arrives informing the girls that there are relieved of their mothering roles for the afternoon: “Girls, it’s time to have a well-earned break while the boys stay at home with the babies. Please get ready to leave the villa #milfsontour #dadsonduty

For Wes, who has arguably devoted more time to baby Mia than Megan, he is baffled by the girls’ sudden reward: “I have put my heart and soul into baby Mia. And they’ve been rewarded, what have I done wrong?”

With the boys rallying together to prove that they can cope in the girls’ absence, Wes renames the Do Bits Society: “The DBS Society has become The Daddy Daycare Society.”

With the girls all discussing their boys and their babies, Megan admits that Wes has slowly taught her to embrace motherhood: “It’s attractive to see that sensitive side of guys, you don’t normally see it. Wes is so natural with her, I’m like ‘oh my God, you’re so cute, look at you.”

When the girls do return to the villa, Megan admits Wes’ parenting skills have been a pleasant surprise: “I was a terrible mum. You really did surprise me. I thought being younger you would be just silly about it, like ‘Meg, here you go, you deal with that.’ But you really shocked me, you were better than me.”

Megan also confesses that the experience has made her realise she is by no means ready for motherhood: “Whatever age I was thinking, which was probably like 27, I feel like add another five on after today. 100%. I’m just not ready yet.

“But don’t think I’m not wife material, I’m not mother material. I am only 24. One day, I’ll get there. Just not now.”

Love Island 2018 airs nightly at 9PM.
