James ‘Arg’ Argent could compete against Gemma Collins on Celebrity X Factor

Bosses want both TOWIE stars after their on-off romance made headlines

Gemma Collins could face some huge competition on The X Factor’s celebrity edition – from her own boyfriend, James ‘Arg’ Argent.

Simon Cowell is planning to replace this year’s regular X Factor with TWO spin-offs – one with returning ‘all-stars’, and one with celebrity contestants.

Gemma was the first name tipped for the celeb version after her entertaining stint on Dancing On Ice.

She also shocked viewers of BBC One’s All Together Now with a surprisingly good performance on its Christmas special.

However, it seems she may now have to take on Arg in her rumoured quest for singing success.

The Only Way Is Essex couple’s rocky on-off relationship has been making tabloid headlines in recent months.

According to the Daily Star, X Factor bosses now want to capitalise on this by hiring both Gemma and Arg as rival contenders.

“Gemma and Arg are perfect for Celebrity X Factor,” a source commented. “They can both hold a tune but they’re not quite professionals, so there is still room for improvement.

“They will have the right mix of confidence and nerves. And they’re both big personalities.

“Viewers will want to see how the competition affects their relationship.

“Talks are ongoing and nothing has been agreed just yet, but execs think there’s a good chance they’ll get them to sign up.”

While Gemma is a TV regular, she may not need the help of Simon’s talent contest to launch a music career.

Last week it was reported that she’s working on a single with chart-topping ‘Runnin’ producer Naughty Boy.

“I don’t consider Gemma a reality TV person, I consider her a superstar,” he said.

ITV is yet to confirm details for either of The X Factor’s proposed spin-offs.

The show last aired a celebrity series in 2006, named ‘Battle Of The Stars’.
