Former X Factor contestants make The Voice UK live shows as trio NXTGEN

A trio of former X Factor contestants have made The Voice UK live shows.

Cian, Sonny and Joel make up the trio NXTGEN.

The 21-year-olds were previously a part of boy band Yes Lad who auditioned for The X Factor in 2016.

They made it as far as judges’ houses but didn’t make the live shows.

On ITV this year, they auditioned for The Voice UK.

“We chill out together, play a lot of football together and obviously rehearse all the time. We spend 24/7 with each other,” they said during their blind audition.

“We used to be a in a larger group of five called Yes Lad and we did The X Factor a few years ago,” the trio continued. “Since then we’ve been working hard, we’ve been grafting, doing gigs. Anything that will make singing our lives because that’s all we want to do.

“We just don’t want to give up. We want to give this everything we got.”

They added: “The group [Yes Lad] has gone separate ways but us three are still mates and wanted to keep the dream alive. This is the first thing we’ve done as a three which is quite scary but it’s very exciting as well.

“Today we want to show those coaches and everyone in the audience that we’re not just a typical boyband, we’ve got the vocal ability.”

For their audition song, the trio performed ‘Cry Me a River’ by Justin Timberlake. The blind audition got turns from both Will.i.am and former X Factor contestant himself Olly Murs.

Both Will and Olly offered their pitches to get Nxt Gen on their teams before they chose to join Team Will.

This week, the three piece took part in the knockouts were they competed for a place in the live shows.

They performed against 16-year-old Gabriel Dryss from London and 17-year-old student Callum Butterworth.

And Will chose the trio as the first of his semi-finalists for the live shows.

The Voice UK 2019 continues Saturday nights on ITV with Olly, Will and their fellow coaches Jennifer Hudson and Sir Tom Jones.

Emma Willis hosts the show, which will air throughout the Spring.
