EastEnders star Emma Barton has reportedly signed up for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing cast.
Emma has played Honey Mitchell in the BBC One soap on and off since 2005, with her current stint starting in 2015.
According to The Sun newspaper, Emma has joined this year’s Strictly line up, leading to last minute rewrites for her character.
A source shared: “Emma was prepared to quit Albert Square in order to dedicate her time to Strictly, but scriptwriters are trying to think of ways to write her out for a few months instead.
“She is very musical, has natural rhythm, and is sure to do well. She’s also come from a bit of a dance background, so is hopeful this could open new doors.”
As well as her work on Emmerdale, Emma has appeared on Celebrity Masterchef and also as Roxie Hart in musical Chicago.
Right now the BBC has not confirmed any names for the Strictly Come Dancing line up, but a rumoured cast is coming together.
Potential Strictly Come Dancing 2019 celebrity contestants include Blue Peter presenter Radzi Chinyanganya, Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin, and BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell, following in the footsteps of Chris Hollins and Ore Oduba who both won the show.
Also linked to the line up are TV legend Anneka Rice, Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing, footballer Alex Scott, soap actresses Emma Barton and Catherine Tyldesley, plus RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage.
More rumoured celebs are Olympic rower James Cracknell, Happy Mondays performer Bez, model Vogue Williams and football manager Sam Allardyce.
The new series will start on TV in September and run until Christmas.
It will feature new judge Motsi Mabuse, sister of current pro dancer Oti, who replaces Darcey Bussell on the panel alongside Bruno Tonioli, Craig Revel Horwood and head judge Shirley Ballas.
Meanwhile, Rylan Clark-Neal will join It Takes Two, co-hosting alongside Zoe Ball.
