How is This Time Next Year made?

Davina McCall has revealed exactly how This Time Next Year is filmed.

Davina hosts the new series of her life-transforming programme which is back this Tuesday evening at 8PM on ITV.

Featuring extraordinary people from around the UK who will share with viewers what they pledge to change in their life by ‘This Time Next Year’. Over the course of 12 months they’ll aim to fulfil their dreams of losing weight, meeting an unknown family member, having children, or finally realising a lifelong personal ambition.

Their transformations will appear instantaneous using the programme’s ‘time travel’ style format.

Once each pledge is made, the contributor will leave the studio ready to begin their challenge but just moments later will reappear completely transformed one year later, hopefully revealing a brand new them.

Davina has revealed how the show is made, starting more than a year before it makes it to TV.

The telly host interviews people hoping to change their life before leaving them to try and achieve their goal over the course of 12 months.

A year later, Davina meets up with them again, making sure to wear the same dress, hair and make up so it appears only an instant has passed.

“Obviously, I’m ageing, but in a year you’re not going to change massively,” Davina said. “I’d got braces, so I had to take those out for the whole day. The sacrifices you make!”

Davina added that having to make sure she could wear the same dress in 12 months proved a good fitness incentive, but quipped: “Holly Willoughby gets so many dresses on Dancing On Ice, whereas I only get the one bloody dress!”

In an interview for the new series, Davina revealed she avoids contacting those trying to change their lives in the 12 months between her interviews with them.

However, they’re regularly filmed by the show’s team who document their progress for each episode.

This Time Next Year airs 8PM on Tuesdays on ITV. Episode 3 of 6 airs this evening.

In the third show of the new series, Davina meets Dawn Abbott a 52-year-old burns survivor from Swaffham who is hoping she can get her self-confidence back and be able to pick her grandkids up from school.

Due to a tragic accident in 2013, 55% of her upper body sustained horrific burns and with her confidence at an all-time low, it took nearly two years for Dawn to leave her house.
