Stars of ITV soap Coronation Street are said to be cashing in – thanks to Poundland.

Famous faces from the Corrie cast are said to have pocketed £225,000 by opening new stores.

Cutting the ribbon at a Poundland opening can bag a celeb as much as £3,000, according to The Sun newspaper.

Catherine Tyldesley and Jennie McApline are among the show’s stars who have opened shops recently.

However the tabloid reports that Andrew Whyment – who plays Kirk Sutherland – and Sean Tully actor Antony Cotton – are leading the way.

The pair are said to have opened no fewer than 40 shops between them.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “Britain loves Coronation St…but whether it is Corrie or TOWIE, our shoppers love to see who else is getting a bargain in Poundland.”

As well as opening shows, Corrie stars have also been cashing in by appearing on other TV programmes.

Last year saw Jennie McApline take part in I’m A Celebrity while both Antony Cotton and Brooke Vincent appeared in this year’s Dancing On Ice.

Coronation Street airs on ITV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.

The show is currently the most watched soap on TV, attracting an average audience of more than 8 million in the past week.

That compares to an average of 6.5 million for its fellow ITV soap Emmerdale and 5.9 million for BBC One’s EastEnders.
