This Britain’s Got Talent contestant is competing in Eurovision 2018

Asanda Jezile is one of six acts competing to represent the UK at Eurovision 2018 in Portugal.

The BBC today confirmed the names of the six acts and songs on the shortlist to become the UK Eurovision entry 2018.

They will take to the Eurovision: You Decide stage on Wednesday 7 February to compete for the honour of representing the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 in Lisbon, Portugal.

One of the six is Asanda, who is no stranger to the stage having first wowed the British public when she appeared on the 2013 series of Britain’s Got Talent aged 11.

She stunned the judges at her first audition, singing Rihanna’s Diamonds.

The panel gave her four yeses and Asanda made it through to the live shows.

More recently, Asanda starred as Tallulah in the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith production of Bugsy Malone.

Asanda’s song is called Legends and has been written by Christopher Wortley, Laurell Barker and Roel Rats.

She about her song: “It is a unique song with a very energetic rhythm and has a tribal feel to it.

“I think the melody and the lyrics come together to form a very beautiful and inspirational message that is relatable to everyone.”

Asanda isn’t the only former reality TV contestants competing to represent the UK this year.

Jaz Ellington, who made the live shows of The Voice UK in 2012, is another of the six artists hoping to be the UK’s 2018 Eurovision entry.

He’ll be singing song You, written by former X Factor finalist Laura White, as well as Ashley Hicklin, Herman Gardarfve.

Jaz says about his song: “The song is a story of two people in a relationship.

“The person telling the story compares everything his partner does, to the one he truly loves.

“It’s beautiful and yet sad at the same time, I just love it. #audiblegold.”

Laura, who appeared on The X Factor in 2008, took to Twitter to praise Jaz’s rendition of her song: “I was allowed to say which performers I would like to perform my songs and Jaz made it a beauty so proud of him ❤️”

Jaz wouldn’t be the first star of The Voice UK to represent the UK at Eurovision. In 2016, Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft competed in Sweden where they finished 24th out of 26.

Eurovision: You Decide will air on BBC Two on Wednesday 7 February.

Viewers will get the chance to vote for their favourite before the UK’s 2018 Eurovision entry is crowned.
