BBC responds to Strictly Come Dancing ‘fix’ claims after Dev Griffin’s shock exit

The BBC have issued a statement following claims of a Strictly Come Dancing ‘fix’

On Saturday night, Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity dancers and their professional partners once again each took to the dancefloor to impress the viewers at home.

In a shock bottom two result, it was Dev Griffin and Viscountess Emma Weymouth who had to dance again for the judges to stay in the competition.

In the results, it was Dev Griffin and his pro partner Dianne Buswell who left Strictly Come Dancing 2019 this week after the judges saved Emma.

Following Sunday’s episode, many fans took to Twitter to complain about the outcome and claim they were unable to vote for Dev and Dianne.

During Saturday’s episode, the official Strictly Twitter account had tweeted: ‘There’s a high volume of calls tonight, so if you don’t get though first time keep trying! And remember you can vote online.”

However in a statement, Strictly bosses said that any voting issues would not have impacted a particular celebrity.

They told the Daily Mail newspaper: “The phone line blockages impacted all contestants equally — and that the likelihood of getting through was not dependent upon the celebrity fans wanted to vote for.”

Meanwhile, Dianne’s boyfriend and former Strictly partner Joe Sugg has hit out at the result.

He told ITV’s This Morning: “I really don’t think it should have been them to go, they had such potential.

Joe added: “[Dev] was brilliant, such an amazing student and it doesn’t seem… I don’t know, it’s weird. I don’t understand.”

Following the results, Dev and Dianne will appear live on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on the sofa with Rylan Clark-Neal for their first interview live on Monday 14th October from 6.30pm.

Meanwhile, the remaining twelve couples will take to the dancefloor next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns as the celebs compete to make the Halloween special.
