X Factor’s Danny Tetly opens up about his sexuality

X Factor’s Danny Tetly has opened up about his sexuality – and revealed a crush on Liam Payne.

Danny is one of ten contestants left on The X Factor 2018 and hopes to inspire others with his story.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Danny revealed that both he and his father are gay and that they came out to one another at the same time.

“I always had my questions over the years but Dad was never open about it,” recalled Danny. “In LA we’d gone into a bar and then realised it was a gay bar. The drinks flowed and we started talking about the men in there who were handsome.

“That led to a conversation back at the hotel and we were honest with each other for the first time. It was quite a strange moment — there aren’t many fathers and sons who are gay.”

After appearing on The X Factor, Danny says he’s had “plenty” of attention but isn’t looking for a relationship right now.

“I have no time at the minute and I’m liking my own space,” he explained.

Danny went on to joke: “Robbie Williams and Simon Cowell are too old for me. Liam Payne and Shawn Mendes are much more my type,” before adding on a more serious note: “I’m hoping that telling this story will inspire others to come out too, whether you were young like me or older like my dad.

“When I did come out it was always a bit of a shock because I was in the rugby and football teams. People say I am not your typical gay man, but who is?”

The X Factor is back at 8:30PM tonight on ITV with the latest results, as well as guest appearances from Olly Murs and Michael Buble.

It’s another double elimination: The act with the least votes from the public will be instantly eliminated. The next two acts with the fewest votes will go forward to the sing-off. They’ll perform again where the judges will decide who to save.
