X Factor’s Alexandra Burke’s new album makes Top 20 debut

Alexandra Burke’s new album The Truth Is has debuted in the Top 20 in today’s chart.

The former X Factor winner has been away from the Top 40 for a good few years now, despite a successful debut era after winning the ITV series.

Her first album in 2009 went to Number 1 along with hit singles including Start Without You, Bad Boys and winner’s song Hallelujah.

However Alexandra’s career stalled when her follow up suffered repeated delays.

It wasn’t until 2012 that Alexandra released a second album, Heartbreak on Hold, which only peaked at Number 18.

Her last Top 40 hit was Let It Go which reached Number 33 in May of 2012.

Now Alexandra is making a comeback after signing a new record contract with Decca Records.

Her record The Truth Is charted at Number 16 in today’s charts, selling just over 3,000 copies.

Speaking about the record this week, Alexandra revealed: “It’s more about situations I’ve been through.

“I’ve always been scared to talk about break ups, but there are songs on the album where I talk about going through that publicly. The album shows that if you go through a tough situation, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I haven’t found mine yet, but I’m searching for it.”

Alexandra went on to candidly confess to OK! magazine: “I’ve been quite anxious and scared about promoting this album because it means I’ve got to talk about losing my mum.

“I’ve been through a tough time and my biggest inspiration is no longer with me, but she’s still with me spiritually.

“That, for me or any young person, is though. That’s what the album is about – love and loss. But there are happier songs on there too!”

The album release follows Alexandra’s success on Strictly Come Dancing, where she made last year’s final.

Alexandra tweeted after just missing out on the title: “I can’t believe it’s all over! Thank you all for your kind and supportive messages.
