X Factor winner Matt Terry has parted ways from his record label after one album.
Matt won the show in 2016, beating Saara Aalto in the final.
Unlike most other winners, Matt didn’t sign up with Simon Cowell’s Syco company, instead penning a deal with sister label RCA on Sony Music.
However Matt has revealed he’s now left their roster.
“I’m not with Sony any more, as of four days ago,” he told The Sun newspaper. “I’m in talks with Sony Madrid. In the UK I’ve done my thing.
“The reaction to my songs has been crazy, they’ve had 60million streams. It’s great but I’m excited to do another album.”
Matt insisted: “You don’t even really need a label to sell. Fair enough, they plan everything for you, but I can still move forward . . . onwards and upwards.”
In an interview with the tabloid, Matt went on to praise Simon Cowell for his “great advice” and encouragement.
Matt said: “He’s very supportive. The X Factor is a great show for people to do, though it is important that they prepare for it as it’s a lot of work.
“Being a famous pop star isn’t a life of luxury. It’s actually very hard work and there’s a lot of time that goes into it.”
For now, instead of the charts, Matt will be focusing on the stage with a role in Madagascar The Musical at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre.
Matt is the latest X Factor star to depart from their label.
Earlier this year it was revealed Ella Henderson had left Syco, following Fleur East who moved on at the end of 2017.
But other stars from the show are enjoying renewed success.
2012 winner James Arthur was re-signed by Simon after his huge comeback album while 2010 champ Matt Cardle also recently signed a new deal with Sony Music.
