X Factor spoiler: Duo ITG split and go solo – but will both brothers make judges’ houses?

X Factor 2017 duo ITG have split up to compete as soloists.

In The Genetics – aka ITG – were made up of brothers Alex Mallett (18) and Leon Mallett (22) who are hotel singers from Norwich, where they perform alongside their mum and nan.

“We’ve always had a musical family, mum sings, nan sings, we’ve always sung and our family really pushed us so we’ve decided to have a go,” said the pair at their original audition.

After singing Ed Sheeran’s Don’t, the judges weren’t completely convinced.

Simon Cowell commented: “Obviously you’re brothers and there’s that connection.

“I just don’t think you know where you should be going.”

Well it turns out that where they’re going is their separate ways.

Despite making it through to the Six Chair Challenge, the duo weren’t seen in last night’s Groups competition.

And that’s because the pair are now competing as soloists.

Tonight first we see Leon hobble onto the stage, arriving in crutches after breaking his ankle playing football.

He tells cameras about splitting from his brother: “When we applied for the competition we thought let’s give us a go together. We thought we’d have a better chance if we do that.”

Leon sings The Chainsmokers’ Closer and gets high praise from Simon: “You’ve come alive on your own, you’re like a completely different person. The whole delivery, I thought you did amazing. I would so give you a seat after that.”

Alex meanwhile sings Plan B’s She Said, following his brother onto the stage.

It’s Boys’ mentor Louis Walsh who is in charge and decides which, if either or both, get a chair through to judges’ houses.

The X Factor 2017 airs tonight at 7PM on ITV.
