The X Factor 2018 judges’ have been given their categories for the new series, but who’s got what this year?.
The new series of The X Factor was back this weekend for the final auditions from the arenas.
This year Simon Cowell will be joined by new X Factor 2018 judges Ayda Williams, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson on the show.
After the auditions concluded, the judges cut down the 100 or so acts to 60 in a new ‘judges’ deliberation round’. They then found out their categories.
The contestants were gathered for the announcement in rooms ahead of the Six Chair Challenge, before the judges walked in to discover who they’d be mentoring.
X Factor 2018 judges’ categories
Robbie Williams has the Groups. He said: “They’re mega excited, I think I might be more excited than them…I’m very, very happy and I’ve got quite a bit of money with Louis Tomlinson, that he thinks his acts are going to get further than my acts. That’s not going to happen. Let’s win this thing.”
Ayda Williams has the Overs. She said: “I have said from day one that I want the overs. I will never live it down with my husband if I do worse than him, I’m taking these guys to the championship. What the boys don’t know is, I’m the most competitive human on that panel. We’ve got this.”
Simon Cowell has the Girls. He said: “I’d be happy with the girls… you’ve all got a shot here, this is probably the best girls category we’ve had for a long, long time. Let’s make it amazing.”
Finally, Louis Tomlinson has the Boys. He said: “I wanted the boys, get in! The variety is important.”
In the six chair challenge, the remaining acts in each category will perform one by one for all four judges and a live audience who will offer their comments and critiques.
Those that make it through will go forward to judges’ houses and potentially the live shows.
And in another shake up to the format, X Factor bosses have introduced a Britain’s Got Talent golden buzzer style twist.
New for the six chair challenge in 2018, each judge can put one act straight through to judges’ houses in a ‘safe seat’.
It’ll guarantee them a spot in the next round without having to worry about being swapped for another singer.
The X Factor six chair challenge begins on ITV on Saturday and Sunday night.
Those who make it through will go forward to judges houses where they’ll be singing for a place in the live shows.
