X Factor’s Dalton Harris speaks out on the ‘winners’ curse’

X Factor’s Dalton Andre Harris has shared his thoughts on the supposed ‘winners’ curse’

It was Dalton who won The X Factor 2018 having competed in the final with Anthony Russell and Scarlett Lee.

Dalton was crowned the winner while Scarlett finished in second place and Anthony was in third.

Over the years, it’s been suggested that winning the show can prove a ‘curse’ with many runners up experiencing greater success.

The likes of One Direction and Olly Murs have carved out bigger careers for themselves compared to those who won their respective series.

Dalton says he’s under no illusion that the hard work is only just beginning.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper of the so-called curse: “I don’t think winning guarantees anything and I also don’t think winning marks you with an X which means, ‘Because you win you will be successful or because you win will not be successful.’

“It all depends on the product. I’m a singer and I love to sing but it’s business. Anything can happen to anybody.”

Dalton went on: “I want to be taken seriously as an artist. Coming off of X Factor, which is such an awesome thing, I don’t want to just be The X Factor guy.

“I want to be a real artist. I want to have a career. I am ready to work. I want to make an album.”

Following his victory on The X Factor last year Dalton has released X Factor winner’s single The Power Of Love to download and stream.

Dalton has teamed up with former X Factor winner James Arthur on the song, originally released by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, with profits going to charity.

The song soared to the top of the iTunes download charts following the live final on TV.

Dalton’s track eventually charted at Number 4 in the Official Chart after five days on sale.

The record sold a total of 35,000 copies based on combined downloads and streams.
