Why X Factor’s Scarlett Lee is so determined to stay on the show

Scarlett Lee has revealed why she’s so determined to keep singing on The X Factor 2018.

The talented singer is one of the favourites on this year’s show but taking part has become more than just about a record contract.

Scarlett says the competition has become all her family have after a devastating fire saw their home burned to the the ground.

Speaking about the fire this week – which saw Scarlett needing treatment for an eye injury – she told ITV’s This Morning it was a “traumatic” experience.

She said: “I have things to focus on, my family are so supportive of me, and I need to make sure I keep my head together

“I burnt four layers of my eye skin. I could have gone blind, but you know what, I’m here, I’m alive. My family are safe, I’m achieving my dreams. They also say I’m the only thing they look forward to, and that they’ll always be watching at home.”

Scarlett went on to praise mentor Simon Cowell, saying: “Simon Cowell has let me pick my own songs from the very first live show, he’s the best. He’s always been there for me, especially for the last few weeks!”

The X Factor went live for the fourth time last weekend with a ‘Movie’ theme live show, where Scarlett wowed with a cover of I’ll Never Love Again from A Star Is Born.

“I wanted to do that song as all my feelings were presented in the one song,” she said of the choice. “I never want to say yeah I can win as all the fellow contestants are so good, but I want to beat myself on the show.'”

Two acts were eliminated in the X Factor 2018 results as duo Misunderstood and Giovanni Spano were sent home.

Now just 8 acts are currently left in the competition. Alongside Scarlett, they are Anthony Russell, Brendan Murray, Dalton Andre Harris, Danny Tetley, Bella Penfold, Shan Ako and Acacia and Aaliyah.

The X Factor 2018 is back next Saturday, November 17, at 8:10PM on ITV and continues with the fifth results show at 8PM on the Sunday, November 18. The theme is Big Band week and there will be performances from Cheryl and Tom Walker.
