X Factor Sam Black's girlfriend says yes to his proposal but judges say no to his voice

Sam Black

X Factor 2017 contestant Sam Black proposed to his girlfriend on the show tonight.

Earlier this year, Sam sailed through his first audition with support from his girlfriend and their young son.

27 year-old Sam is a plasterer from Liverpool who also loves singing.

He didn't apply for the show himself but rather was put forward by his girlfriend and mum to his newborn baby.

"I think she thinks I'm a better singer than I am," he told the cameras before his audition.

In the audition room, Sam performed Dion's Runaround Sue and despite his doubts he won himself a spot in bootcamp.

During the opening episode of this series, Sam teased to cameras that he would marry his girlfriend and he's set to live up to that promise with an X Factor proposal.

In tonight's show, Sam got down on one knee in front of not only the judges but also the HUGE live audience at Wembley Arena.

"Do you reckon I can get a yes off you?" Sam asked his girlfriend.

No wonder nerves slightly got the better of him as Sam put the ring on the wrong finger.

Simon Cowell quipped: “I’m no expert at this but you’ve just put the ring on the wrong hand!”

An audience member told the Daily Mirror newspaper previously: “Sam was at the end of his audition when he made the move and called Emma out from the audience.

“It was a great moment and Simon gave the couple a big thumbs up and all the judges were cheering.”

Sam's girlfriend Emma told the Daily Mail: "It was one big shock, it was the last thing I was expecting. I was completely overwhelmed.

"He was nervous before the performance and I thought how he had to be nervous for this too. It was very brave of him."

While the proposal was successful, his audition didn't go so well with Sam being sent home and failing to make the six chair challenge.

The X Factor 2017 continues Saturday and Sunday nights on ITV.
