Torvill and Dean want Dancing On Ice to be as big as Strictly Come Dancing

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are hopeful Dancing On Ice’s return will prove a big hit.

The ITV series will be back next month for the first time in four years.

Jayne and Christopher were coaches on the show’s original series but this time around will be judges.

And they’re wanting the revived series to become as big as Strictly Come Dancing on BBC One, which saw over 13 million viewers for its final last weekend.

Jayne told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I hope so. There’s a lot of buzz and energy, so hopefully the quality will draw people in.”

Alongside Jayne and Chris’ return, Dancing On Ice’s 2018 series will welcome back hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby plus judge Jason Gardiner.

Chris said: “Jason used to be on the money but the way he said it was always the part that got him into trouble. The ‘faecal matter’ comment pushed us over the edge. He’s a panto character sometimes.”

A total of 12 celebrities have signed up as Dancing On Ice 2018 contestants.

Soap star Brooke Vincent was revealed as the new series’ first star signing for the returning show. She was joined by singer Cheryl Baker and Love Island contestant Kem Cetinay,

They’re on the cast with Great British Bake Off’s Candice Brown, X Factor singer Jake Quickenden, Rugby hunk Max Evans, and ITV Weatherman Alex Beresford.

Cricket hero Monty Panesar was also taking part but was replaced by singer Lemar due to injury.

Actress and TV presenter Donna Air, athlete Perri Shakes-Drayton, Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton and Hollyoaks star Stephanie Waring complete the Dancing On Ice 2018 line up of celebrity contestants.

The Dancing On Ice 2018 start date has now been confirmed for Sunday, January 7. The opening show will run for two hours between 6PM and 8PM.
