The Voice UK Kids coaches will be ‘a bit harsher’ this year

The Voice Kids UK’s Danny Jones has said this year the coaches will be “a bit harsher” with contestants.

The Voice UK Kids 2018 is back on ITV from Saturday night with its second series.

The Voice Kids is again open to solo singers between the ages of seven and 14, with the winner receiving a life changing prize to help their music careers.

Last year’s coaches will.i.am, Pixie Lott and Danny Jones will all return to The Voice Kids in 2018, ITV previously confirmed.

Speaking about the upcoming series, Danny said: “We knew what the level of talent was going to be like from the last series, so we were a bit harsher.

“The talent is unbelievable. We want that level of talent this time to be as good as the final was last time, but right from the start.”

He explained to the Metro newspaper: “We’d never done the show before – like me and Pixie didn’t know what it would be like.

“We were like, ‘Yeah we know what’s good’, but you don’t know what we’re looking for. Now we’ve got experience, we feel like we own that chair a little more now.”

Danny added how much he loved taking part in the series and returning for the second season.

“I do it because I love it, I love working with the kids, I think it’s amazing,” he raved. “The kids in particular, there’s no last-ditch effort, there’s no desperation, there’s no money involved.

“They’re doing it for the love of it, I’m doing it for the love of it, I think it shows. I wouldn’t have that energy that I have otherwise.”

For 2018, there will be a brand new format for The Voice UK Kids

The show will air over the space of just 8 days, with new episodes each night.

“It’s official, the kids are taking over,” Will.i.am teases in a new trailer.

“We have eight days full of surprises,” he adds.

The show begins this Saturday night, July 14 at 8PM on ITV.
