The Voice UK 2019 contestant Deana wowed the coaches tonight with a cover of an Amy Winehouse classic.
23-year-old Deana from Liverpool appeared in this weekend’s latest round of blind auditions.
“I’ve always been a little tom boy, out with the lads, on my bike, climbing trees, getting stuck in the mud. That was me,” she said of her ‘unique’ look.
Currently working as a singing teacher at a college, Deana said: “Teaching makes me happy. I came here when I was a young kid, when I had nothing to go for. It’s my pleasure to give something back.”
Heading out on stage, Deana added: “If I got a turn off one of those coaches… words wouldn’t even describe it, I’d be buzzing. This isn’t going to your normal gig every week, it’s a big, big, big step of my life. I’m going to grab it and go and hope they turn.”
Singing a cover of Amy Winehouse hit Back to Black, Deana got more than one coach to spin with Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and Will.i.am all hitting their buzzers.
Sir Tom said: “To take on a song like that, it’s a big thing because she was such a great singer and that was such a great record. I can hear your passion in your voice, I loved the tone in your voice, that’s why I hit the button.
Olly added: “I love the way you dress and the way you are, you’ve got a great swag about you. I love it. It’s boss.”
Will.i.am commented: “You’re someone who I’d like to hang out with, nonchalant, sing songs, write songs.”
And although she didn’t hit her buzzer, Jennifer praised: “I think you guys turned around for a star, you’re so talented and interesting and I’m so mad at myself… hopefully I can steal you down the line.”
With three coaches to choose from, it was up to Deana which team to join.
She delivered her decision: “I think I’m going to go with you, Tom.”
