The Voice UK 2019: Moya has all four coaches turning with powerful audition

Singer-songwriter Moya had all four coaches turning on The Voice UK this weekend with a Rag’n’Bone Man cover.

Blind auditions for The Voice 2019 were back for their fifth weekend this Saturday night.

Jennifer Hudson, Will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones and Olly Murs were again in the spinning red chairs on the hunt for top singing talent.

One of the hopeful acts we met was 27-year-old Moya from Jersey.

She previously enjoyed success five years ago, releasing an album and touring with Rod Stewart.

However Moya told the cameras: “I came off tour and really wanted to write a second album and that’s where it started to go wrong. That’s the thing about this industry, one minute you’re up and then next you’re down and I don’t think I was prepared for that.

“I lost my confidence so much that I didn’t think I was capable of doing this anymore. I decided to just put a hold on all things music and now I live with my parents.”

She added: “Now I feel stronger and better than ever to take The Voice on and see if I can do this again. It’s so scary but sometimes you just have to put yourself out there.

Moya’s blind audition – where she performed ‘Grace’ by Rag’n’Bone Man – got all four coaches turning and a standing ovation from the audience.

Sir Tom praised: “You have a wonderful tone and a passion, you have the whole thing.”

Will.i.am added: “Every single person that I know in the music industry that I respect has had crazy knockbacks. You have an amazing voice.”

Jennifer commented: “I think we could all sense that passion for your music through each and every note. It was special and I think that caught all of our attention.”

And Olly concluded: “It was a real honour to hear you sing, that was amazing.”

Left with all four of the coaches to pick from, Moya delivered her decision: “Thank you so much for turning. I’ve had this person in my head from Day 1, it’s Jennifer Hudson.”

The Voice UK 2019 continues Saturday nights on ITV.
