ITV has confirmed it will no longer air The Jeremy Kyle Show after almost 15 years on TV.
ITV’s chief executive, Carolyn McCall made the announcement today after the show was taken off air on Monday.
The day time programme typically airs from 9:25AM weekdays on ITV but this week’s scheduled episodes were cancelled.
In a statement released at the the time ITV said they had suspended The Jeremy Kyle Show until further notice after the death of a guest shortly after filming.
It’s been reported that a man took his own life following an appearance on the programme which had yet to air. Steven Dymond took part in the show earlier this month (May) but was found dead days later.
There were subsequently calls to axe the show for good from some MPs although others, including some who had previously taken part in the series themselves, defended the programme.
This morning (May 15), ITV confirmed that the show would not be returning to screens.
“Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show,” ITV said. “The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.
“Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.”
They added: “The previously announced review of the episode of the show is under way and will continue.
“ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects.”
The Jeremy Kyle Show first aired in 2005 on ITV and has since broadcast more than 3,000 episodes.
Presented by Jeremy Kyle, the tabloid talk show format sees guests attempting to resolve personal issues often relating to relationships, family and addiction.
Alongside members of the public, there have been a number of celebrity specials since its launch.
