The Greatest Dancer start date has been confirmed for the brand new series on BBC One.

The show is a new dance talent contest from the makers of The X Factor an Britain’s Got Talent.

Following another sensational series of unforgettable routines, spectacular showstoppers and magical moments on Strictly Come Dancing, dance fever has well and truly swept the nation but viewers need not fear about missing out as brand new talent show The Greatest Dancer begins in January.

The first episode is confirmed in the schedules and the series will start on Saturday 5th January at 8pm on BBC One.

The BBC tease: “The Greatest Dancer promises to be one of the most inclusive, diverse and unique dance competitions around – literally nothing is off limits!

“Individual dancers, duos and groups, from the ages of 7 to 70+ in any dance discipline whatsoever are invited to see if they have what it takes to be named The Greatest Dancer and waltz off with £50,000 and perform as a special guest on the next series of Strictly Come Dancing.”

The Greatest Dancer is presented by former Strictly Come Dancing champion Alesha Dixon and Diversity’s Jordan Banjo and will also feature star of Strictly Come Dancing and eight-time Latin American champion, Oti Mabuse; Broadway star and Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe nominated Matthew Morrison and multi-platinum British artist Cheryl.

Cheryl said: “The great thing about The Greatest Dancer is that we put the power into the audience’s hands.”

Matthew said: “It is unlike any other show out there.”

Oti said: ” I’m looking for something that is really extraordinary, something that’s going to represent the genre that it’s from and get everybody excited.”

The first episode of The Greatest Dancer will transmit on BBC One at 8pm on Saturday 5th January 2019 and continue throughout the new year.
