Emma Barton has had her say after placing bottom on the latest Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard.
The Emmerdale actress scored just 22 points for her Rumba last Saturday, and faced particularly harsh criticisms from Shirley Ballas.
Speaking this week, Emma confessed: “I was disappointed definitely. I know it wasn’t our best dance but it wasn’t the worst, I was really proud of myself not wobbling, I was petrified.”
She told ITV’s This Morning: “It’s a dance that’s totally different to a dance we’ve done before. Everything was about the connection, everything was about the chemistry.
“That’s what I really wanted to show the judges that I could do. I actually don’t know. I’m the student and not the pro.”
Her pro partner Anton Du Beke, who defended Emma against some of Shirley’s comments, added: “It’s the first time I’ve seen it back, I just laugh I was sort of teasing her a bit, when she said something all nice and lovely and then looked down at her pad I thought ‘hello there’s a list!’
“I was sort of teasing really. You’ve got to get the emotional side right and that’s the thing that we’ve been working on all week.
“And that’s the thing the judges had picked up on since the beginning really of us dancing together. So we worked solely on that part of the dance and I thought that part worked quite well.”
Despite the low marks, Emma and Anton sailed through the latest results show.
This weekend they will dance a Theatre/Jazz Couple’s Choice routine to Right Now by The Pussycat Dolls
Emma admitted: “We’re having the best time this week, we’re doing the Couple’s Choice. It’s Jazz-Theatre and I’m not a trained dancer, but I have done musical theatre… ‘it’ is just in there, I don’t know what ‘it’ is but I’ve got just a little bit more of that style and that comes a little bit easier.
“I’m a little bit more comfortable. I will never say I’m tired ever again, I really won’t! But it’s lovely, we’ve had loads of time this week.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10:30AM on ITV.
The remaining eight couples will take to the dancefloor this week when Strictly Come Dancing returns Saturday 9th November at 6:45pm.
The results show is on Sunday 10th November at 7.20pm on BBC One.
