Strictly Come Dancing’s shock result leaves viewers raging

Sunday’s shock Strictly Come Dancing results have left many viewers unhappy.

Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston Merrygold who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 last night.

As always, following the latest live performances and public vote, the judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ poll to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

This weekend, it was popstar Aston Merrygold and his partner Janette Manrara; and singer Mollie King and her professional partner AJ Pritchard.

Both couples performed their routines again before the judges delivered their verdicts and it was a split decision.

Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.

Many weren’t impressed with either Mollie or Aston being in the bottom two as other celebs sailed through.

Despite that being partly the decision of the public, viewer complaints included: “How can the likes of Susan and Ruth have the audacity to stay in the competition when a desrved finalist goes out??? #Strictly”

Another raged on Twitter: “#strictly joke wont be watching it after this fix ruth should have gone. How is that allowed to happen. He was awesome one of the best!”

A third remarked: “Just a quick reminder that Susan and Ruth are still in the competition while Aston -who scored 39 in the previous episode- is out #Strictly”

Celebs also got involved with former Strictly judge and champion Alesha Dixon tweeting: “Craig giving Aston a 4 basically put the nail in the coffin! Ridiculous! Can’t believe one of the best dancers has left so soon!!! #Strictly”

And Ferne McCann tweeted: “Not going to lie I’m devastated that @AstonMerrygold has gone from #Strictly I loved watching him dance every week ?? how has this happened?”

As for Aston himself, after the result he said: “Honestly, every second of this, I’ve had friends who have done the show before and they’ve gone ‘you’re going to have the most amount of fun from start to finish whatever it is’ and honestly they weren’t lying!

“Everything, from this lady to every single person in here, these four judges, yourself, Claudia, all you amazing lot up there that I get to see and spend so much time with.

“I’ve made some amazing friends and honestly I’ve had the best time, it’s been amazing.”

The remaining nine couples will take to the dancefloor again next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One.

Aston and Janette will be joining Zoe Ball for their first exclusive televised interview live on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two on Monday 6th November at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
