Kelvin Fletcher has confessed the reaction to his Strictly Come Dancing routines has taken him by surprise.
The Emmerdale actor was a late addition to this year’s line up after Made In Chelsea’s Jamie Laing had to leave due to an injury.
He took the ballroom by storm with his Samba in the first week, topping the scoreboard.
And the comments from judges – and viewers – have took Kelvin completely by surprise.
“It is amazing, and I wasn’t expecting it at all,” he told the Radio Times. “When I saw the reaction, I know we’d done well, and then we got some great comments.
“It was a crazy few days.”
Meanwhile, Kelvin has spoken out about the so-called Strictly curse.
He told The Sun newspaper that he wants viewers to think there’s feelings between him and pro dancer Oti Mabuse – and says his wife will be angry if there isn’t.
“If there’s not that feeling there, my wife will be the first person to pull me up on it, because she absolutely wants to believe it too,” he explained. “I’m lucky though. Liz [Kelvin’s wife] knows me, she’s known me since I was eight years old, and we’re very happily married.”
“And don’t forget, she’s watched me kiss numerous actresses on Emmerdale”, he added.
Also discussing the Strictly curse has been Michelle Visage, partnered with Giovanni Pernice.
“I can see how it does happen,” she said. “If you are missing that physicality and contact and touch in your life, then maybe. My husband knows me and loves me. We have been married for 23 years.
“When I told him I was with Gio, I said to him, ‘Look how hot he is’, and he was like, ‘He is hot, go Giovanni!’
“So yeah, Giovanni is hot, but nothing is going to happen.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday night on BBC One.
