Strictly Come Dancing’s Danny John-Jules collapse in training revealed

Danny John-Jules collapsed in training for last weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing, he has revealed.

The Red Dwarf actor is one of eleven celebrities in the current series, dancing with pro partner Amy Dowden.

Last week the pair performed a Jive to Flip, Flop and Fly by Ellis Hall which won him the best marks of the series so far – including the very first ten of the series.

Danny’s total of 37 saw him top the leaderboard for the first time but he almost never made it to the dancefloor.

Appearing on spin-off show It Takes Two this week, he told how he collapsed backstage in rehearsals ahead of Saturday’s show.

“It’s cardio, fitness. I haven’t moved like that since a long time. You worry about slowing down and if you slow down it’s a bit of a no-no,” he said. “I did collapse after the second run, the tech run on Friday.

“The floor manager looked down at me looking up at the ceiling and asked me: ‘Do you want to do another one?”‘

Recalling Saturday night’s dance and the top scores from the judges, Danny confessed: “It was all a blur. When I finished, I looked at Amy and only then I realised it had been good.

“I was still in a daze when I got to the judges and it didn’t sink in until a day later when all the messages started coming in from social media.”

This weekend, Danny and Amy will dance the American Smooth to Spirit In The Sky by Doctor and the Medics for Halloween week.

The remaining eleven couples will take to the dancefloor once more this weekend when Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 27th October at 6.50pm.

And one more celebrity will leave in the latest results show on Sunday 28th October at 7.50pm on BBC One. Plus, there will be a special guest performance from Rita Ora.
