Aston Merrygold’s shock Strictly Come Dancing exit has shaken up the rest of the cast.
Despite being a favourite to win, it was Aston who was voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2017 at the weekend.
He was in the bottom two dance off against Mollie King after the viewer votes and judges’ scores were combined.
Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas both voted to save Mollie while Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli saved Aston. As head judge, Shirley had the casting vote and so Mollie was saved and Aston went home.
The shock exit has given the remaining all star cast of contestants a wake up call, says current competitor Davood Ghadami.
“I think it wakes everybody up to what this is about, it’s a competition and someone has to go and it could be anyone,” he told The Sun newspaper. “We’ve been there, we’ve been in the dance off and we know what it’s like, it’s really not nice.
“It was my best score and we ended up in the dance off so we know that anything can happen at any time, so it’s only when that Sunday show has finished you can go ‘right onto the next week’.”
He added: “Up until that point, it doesn’t matter… you could have all 10s or all 1s it could all completely change.”
Following Aston’s surprise departure, Debbie McGee has been installed as the current favourite to win.
Strictly is back this Saturday night as the remaining nine celebs fight for a place at the upcoming Blackpool special.
