The show, which first debuted in 2016, will be streaming a fourth season in 2022.

A teaser for the new season shares: “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.

“In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Stranger Things season 4 release date

New episodes will be released in two volumes on 27 May and 1 July 2022. In the UK the season will be available at 8AM.

As for what to expect from season 4, it was previously confirmed – spoiler alert! – that the new episodes would see the return of Chief Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour).

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer teased fans: “We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!

“Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other.”

They added: “Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…

“Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

Alongside David Harbour, the cast for season 4 will see Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Cara Buono, and Brett Gelman. They’ll be joined by Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco and Joseph Quinn.

New to the cast for the upcoming season will be Amybeth McNulty as Vickie, Myles Truitt as Patrick, Regina Ting Chen as Ms. Kelly and Grace Van Dien as Chrissy: Hawkins.

Meanwhile it’s been announced that Stranger Things will end with its fifth season.

The Duffer brothers said: “Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things.

“At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four but — as you’ll see for yourselves — we are now hurtling toward our finale.”
