Stacey Solomon has defended Ayda Williams’ appointment to The X Factor panel.
This year Simon Cowell will be joined by new X Factor 2018 judges Ayda, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson on the panel.
Simon said of the new line up: “This new panel is all about optimism, everyone has a real passion for finding a new star. The three new judges bring a whole new energy and I’m excited.”
X Factor fans however haven’t been all too sure about Ayda taking up a seat, given her lack of past musical experience or expertise.
However former X Factor finalist Stacey, who made the final in 2009, has defended her Loose Women co-star.
She said: “I know she’s getting a lot of stick because she’s not a singer or hasn’t had a record, but I honestly think people will be pleasantly surprised by Ayda.
“She’s passionate about the industry. She’d love to change somebody’s life and give them the opportunities Robbie had and mentor them and bring them up. I think she’ll keep Robbie on his toes.”
Stacey added to The Sun newspaper: “Ayda is so funny and brilliant and witty, I think she’ll do a great job.”
Speaking about joining The X Factor last week, Ayda said: “On a professional level I’ve auditioned for years so I know the highs and lows. I know what it takes to help people achieve their dreams. It’s all about the auditionees, it’s an organic process.
“The fact I get to work with Rob and against him is fantastic!”
Robbie added: “For nearly 30 years I’ve been touring. I’ve been wanting to branch out and The X Factor felt like the perfect vehicle. Ayda is my rock, she’s looked after me through thick and thin. I’m looking forward to getting started as a judge!”
The X Factor will air on ITV in the autumn.
