BritBox has announced the release date for series 2 of Spitting Image.
The rebooted series, which first launched last October, will be back with new episodes from 11 September.
New puppets set to feature in series 2 include Olivia Colman, Sajid Javid, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Tom Cruise, Tom Daley, Jess Phillips, Ariana Grande, Gary Lineker, Bill Gates, Ellen DeGeneres, and Raheem Sterling.
They join regular figures such as Joe Biden, Boris Johnson, Cristiano Ronaldo, Prince Andrew, Harry Kane, Vladimir Putin, Harry & Meghan, Beyoncé, Angela Merkel, Dwayne Johnson, Gareth Southgate, Ed Sheeran, Jürgen Klopp, Elon Musk, Adele, Covid-19, James Corden, Emmanuel Macron, Mark Zuckerberg, Donald Trump, and Dominic Cummings.
The second series follows BritBox previously reporting that the show helped deliver a ten-fold increase in subscribers compared to the average daily rate for the BBC and ITV created streaming platform.
As well as a huge hit on BritBox, global social media stats have seen the show attract 200 million views globally and three No. 1 trending videos on YouTube.
Reemah Sakaan, Group Director ITV SVOD and Chief Creative & Brand Officer BritBox said: “The fantastic response to Spitting Image just goes to show how much the world needs public service satire. Not only can subscribers look forward to another 9 weeks of anarchy but also now another series in 2021.”
Jon Thoday, Executive Producer at programme makers Avalon, said: “We’re all very excited to be able to serve up more Spitting Image for BritBox.”
Spitting Image co-creator Roger Law added: “Steady employment at last!”
