Simon Rimmer thinks Strictly Come Dancing has a “Southern bias”

Simon Rimmer has claims Strictly Come Dancing has a “Southern bias”.

Last weekend Strictly Come Dancing’s celebrity dancers and their professional partners once again each took to the dancefloor, this time for the Halloween special.

They were out again to impress the viewers at home – as well as the line up of judges Bruno Tonioli, Shirley Ballas, Darcey Bussell and Craig Revel Horwood in the studio.

Mollie King and Simon Rimmer had to dance again and it was Simon who went home.

Speaking on It Takes Two last night, Simon revealed he was now backing Gemma Atkinson to win.

“At the end of the day, you do know that Strictly is very Southern-biased,” he told host Zoe Ball.

Simon added: “There’s never been a Northern winner. Northern powerhouse Gemma Atkinson, go on you!”

Simon went on to pick out a few of his favourite moments after six weeks on the show.

“The waltz to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and the impact it had on people, I think that showed what performance of any description can do,” he said. “Still, now people talk about that and it was our second dance ever. The Charleston — we laughed and laughed and laughed all of the week.

“There have been so many, it’s been amazing.”

Chatting in Sunday night’s results show after being eliminated, Simon had said, “Do you know it has been the most amazing experience ever, you know, from the minute I walked in through the door.

“The Strictly experience is just so positive, every single person involved in it is so positive. And like, all of that lot up there, all the rest of the class of 2017, are just magnificent people. All the pro dancers are amazing….

“But the biggest thank you obviously is to Karen who has just been amazing, who has convinced this lumbering 54 year-old bloke that I could stand-up on a Saturday night and dance in front of millions of people and she has become you know, a proper friend not just to me but to all my family and for that I can’t thank you enough.”

The remaining ten couples will take to the dancefloor again next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns on BBC One on Saturday evening at 6.50pm.
