Saara Aalto ‘turns down chance to represent UK at Eurovision 2019’

X Factor and Dancing On Ice contestant Saara Aalto has turned down the opportunity to represent the UK at Eurovision this year.

Saara, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2016, last year represented her home country of Finland at the competition.

Her song Monsters ended up ranking Number 25 out of the 26 competitors, scoring 46 points.

It faired even worse than the United Kingdom’s entry, which scored 48 points to place Number 24.

Nevertheless, Eurovision bosses apparently approached Saara about representing us in the competition – and seemingly not for the first time.

But she declined the chance, telling The Sun newspaper: “They asked me to do Eurovision for the UK again. It’s like, ‘Give me a break, not yet’. I have much bigger stuff this year.”

Saara teased of her upcoming music plans: “I’ve recorded some stuff with Jonas Blue but you never know with these things.”

Currently Saara is competing on Dancing On Ice where she made history on Sunday night by skating AND singing.

Saara performed her own version of Let It Go from Frozen for musicals week while dressing as Queen Elsa for the performance.

Saara revealed ahead of the live show that a rehearsal of the routine saw coach Karen Barber reduced to tears.

“She didn’t know I was about to sing, then when I started she began to suddenly cry. It just blew her away,” the performer revealed.

Saara’s routine won her strong marks from the judges with a total of 26 points placing her third on the leaderboard.

The singer made it through the latest elimination, as actor Richard Blackwood was eliminated in the skate off against Loose Women’s Saira Khan.

Dancing On Ice 2019 continues its live shows this Saturday night, January 27 from 6PM, hosted by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Meanwhile, the potential 2019 UK Eurovision entries will be revealed later this week by the BBC.
