Happy Mondays star Bez ‘in talks to join this year’s Strictly Come Dancing’

Happy Mondays performer Bez is reportedly in talks to join the 2019 Strictly Come Dancing line up.

The musician is the latest name linked to the new series, even though it won’t be on screens until the autumn.

Bez, real name Mark Berry, previously put himself forward for the show in 2016.

He said: “I reckon I could go all the way. Dancing has made me famous and entertaining people is what I do best. I’ve lost count of the number of blokes who’ve come up over the years and said, ‘Thanks for making it OK for indie guys to get on the dance floor’.”

The Daily Mirror newspaper claims that Bez now may get his wish, with a source saying he’s in talks for the show.

“He would be honoured to take part,” the insider added.

Although Strictly 2019 is a while away, host Tess Daly confirmed stars were already being approached at the end of last year.

Host Tess Daly said in December: “We’ve already been plotting and planning which celebrities are going to be approached next year. People have already been approached for next year.

“I’ve heard there’s a few who have already confirmed.”

Other rumoured celebs at this early stage include BBC Newsreader Huw Edwards. In a chat on Radio 2 with Steve Wright, Huw revealed: “Following my stellar appearance reading out the terms and conditions in early December, where I basically set the British television world alight, I was asked if I’d consider Strictly.

Also linked to the upcoming season are model & TV presenter Vogue Williams, TV and radio host Fearne Cotton, who recently stepped down from Celebrity Juice after ten years,, X Factor star Olly Murs, BBC journalist Steph McGovern and actress Jodie Comer.

TV and Radio presenter Chris Evans recently claimed he’s agreed to take part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2019 while Alan Carr has also confirmed he too has been approached to hit the dance floor.

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 will air on BBC One later this year.
