Peaky Blinders film “is going to happen” after final series on BBC One

A Peaky Blinders film “is going to happen” its creator has said.

Set in Birmingham, Peaky Blinders follows the Shelby crime family in the aftermath of World War I.

After first premiering in 2013, the show returned this year for its sixth series.

It was confirmed previously that the hit TV series would end after its sixth and final season which concluded in April on BBC One.

Show creator Steven Knight said in a statement: “Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.

“We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it.

“While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

He later expanded on his comments, telling Deadline: “My plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie.

“That is what is going to happen.”

As yet nothing more has been announced but be sure to watch this space!

The sixth and final series of Peaky Blinders recently concluded on Sunday night on BBC One.

A teaser for the final series shared: “1933 brings both opportunities and dangers to the Peaky Blinders. Beset by demons old and new, Tommy Shelby conceives a radical strategy to deal with a world on the road to hell.”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach said: “Series six marks the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on.”

Outside the UK, the series is available to watch online via Netflix with season six premiering 10 June 2022.
