True Love or True Lies: Couples must figure out who’s fake in new MTV show

Real and fake duos will compete for £50,000 in new dating format

Real and fake couples are going head-to-head for a £50,000 prize in a new MTV reality show.

True Love or True Lies (previously‘The Lovers and The Liars’) sees several supposedly loved-up couples shipped off to sunny Tuscany in Italy, where they face a series of relationship tests.

However, not all of the romances will be real, and the contestants will have to work out which ones are genuine.

The statuses of the couples will also be kept secret from viewers, allowing them to play along.

The show is narrated by Danny Dyer and is hosted by Radio 1’s Maya Jama.

The couples are: Olivia & Dan, Eleanor & Charlie, Jade & Dee, Jack & Luke, Chris & John and Cameron & Shereece.

One duo will be voted out each week, and the lucky winners will be rewarded with a £50,000 jackpot.

The ten-part series comes from Lime Pictures, the company behind The Only Way Is Essex and Celebs Go Dating.

Executive producer Sarah Tyekiff said: “If you’re real Lovers it doesn’t matter what kind of relationship you’re in, as long as you’re genuinely in love. For the Liars, well, anything goes.

“We’re confident the viewers are in for something totally different because they won’t be told who’s real and who’s fake.

“This show gives us real insight into modern-day relationships, people’s opinions of them, and a great play along at home.”

Craig Orr, VP of Commissioning and Development for MTV International, promised the show will have an “incredibly exciting and diverse cast”.

“It has a massive hook for those watching at home, trying to guess who the real couples are through the many twists and turns of the series,” he said.

True Love or True Lies airs nightly on MTV at 9PM.

It is the fourth UK-made programme MTV has ordered this year, following Ex On The Beach spin-off Body SOS, The Charlotte Show, and Million Dollar Baby, which features Big Brother star Lateysha Grace.
