Love Island’s Mike Thalassitis was found dead in woods near his house, police have confirmed.
The tragic news of Mike’s death, aged just 26, first broke yesterday (Saturday, March 16).
It’s been reported today that Mike was found hanged in a park in London, with police not treating the incident as suspicious.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Police were called to a park near Latymer Way, N9, at 9.28am on Saturday, March 16 to reports of a man found hanged.
“Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found a man, aged in his 20s, deceased.
“At this early stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious. Police are in the process of informing the man’s next of kin. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Love Island have also issued a statement, saying: “Everyone at ITV2 and Love Island are shocked and saddened by this terrible news.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mike’s family and friends at this very sad time.”
Meanwhile, sources close to Mike have praised the “perfect gentleman”.
“He was always the perfect gentleman and would pick up the bill everywhere we went,” one told the Daily Mirror newspaper.
Another source told The Sun: “It is absolutely tragic to have died at such a young age.
“Mike had so much to live for. He was about to launch a restaurant in Essex with a pal. He was grieving the loss of his nan.
“There was so much in store for his future that this is truly senseless.”
Tributes from Mike’s fellow Love Island stars have poured in on Twitter.
Chris Hughes, who appeared on Love Island with Mike, wrote: “His name wasn’t Muggy Mike. Please stop brandishing that.
“His name was Mike Thalassitis, and every inch of my heart goes out to his family & friends. A good guy, taken far, far to soon. ?’
Tyla Carr, who coupled up with Mike while on Love Island, said: “I can’t believe the call I’ve just had. Mike, you were loved by all of the Love island family.
“You’ll be missed so much. All my love goes out to your friends and family. Shocked.”
And Love Island host Caroline Flack took to Instagram to say: “Mike… you were a total gentleman… I won’t forget that … it’s so so sad …you will be missed. RIP. ❤️”
