Malta’s Gaia Cauchi auditions for The X Factor UK judges

Singer Gaia Cauchi from Malta auditioned for The X Factor UK 2018 this weekend.

The X Factor returned to ITV this Saturday and Sunday night for the final weekend of auditions.

Back on the judges desk once more were Simon Cowell, Ayda Williams, Robbie Williams and Louis Tomlinson.

Acts were wanting at least three yeses from the panel to make it through to the next round.

And as well as facing the judges, the hopefuls this year have to sing for the 4,000 strong audience at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

One of the contestants we met in Saturday’s show is Gaia Cauchi, a 15 year old student from Malta.

The X Factor isn’t her first competition: She previously represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2013 and won with her song The Start.

She told the judges tonight: “I wanted to apply when I was younger but I think now is the right time. ”

Gaia sang Paloma Faith’s Only Love Can Hurt Like This in her bid to make it through to the next round.

After, Robbie commented: “You’re incredibly charismatic and I think you have The X Factor but I think your age is a concern.

“I think you should have a go at being in a group,” he added to boos from the crowd.

“You are an absolutely incredible singer, there’s no doubt about it, you’ve huge potential,” added Ayda.

Despite Robbie’s hesitation, the judges ultimately gave Gaia four yeses through to the next round.

Other acts we met this weekend included Louise Setara, a 30 year old cleaner who sings an original song, Cezar Ouatu, a 38 year old singing teacher who surprises the judges, and Panda Ross, who previously appeared on The X Factor in the USA.

There’s also drag queen Gingzilla from Sydney, Australia. He gives the panel quite a shock, declaring: “I’m going to be so different you won’t even know what’s hit you,” leaving Robbie “deliciously confused”.

The X Factor 2018 auditions conclude on Sunday night at 8PM on ITV, September 23.
