Love Island’s Megan Barton Hanson has opened up about her break up from Wes Nelson.
Megan announced she and Wes had “decided to separate” last month after around six months together.
The pair coupled up on last summer’s series of Love Island, where they made it to the final.
Now Megan has opened up about their split in this week’s Grazia magazine.
She told the publication: “Break-ups in the public eye are horrible, it seems like there’s always one person who tries to vilify the other. But there’s no need for it.
“It all ended very amicably. I really love Wes as a person, but we realised we are in very different stages of our lives and our priorities are different. I’m 24 and by the time I’m 30 I want to be engaged. Wes is only 20. He’s living his best life.”
Megan described the split as “heartbreaking”, adding: “I really thought he was The One and that we’d be together forever. I wanted a serious relationship, so it’s heartbreaking for me that it didn’t work out.”
Newly single Megan went on to rule out ever dating someone in the public eye again.
“I just want someone who is nice, normal and grounded. I am positive that I will meet someone who loves me for me, but I never want to date a person in the public eye ever again. It’s just so much pressure and it’s even more painful when it ends,” she said.
The comments come after insiders accused Megan and Wes of ‘faking’ their break up.
A source alleged to heat magazine: “Friends of the couple have been mystified by the split announcement and suspect it’s all for publicity – they reckon they are fully intending to get back together, once Dancing On Ice is over.”
But a spokesperson for Wes insisted that the pair genuinely had parted ways in a statement to Daily Mail.
