Leigh-Anne Pinnock BBC documentary – how to watch online now

Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop & Power air date for BBC Three doc

Little Mix’s Leigh-Anne Pinnock is to front a new BBC documentary on the topics of racism and colourism.

The singer is to make a special one-off documentary for BBC Three which will explore her experience as the only black member of Little Mix, and as a black woman in the music industry.

Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop & Power (originally titled Leigh-Anne: Colourism & Race) is being produced by Kandise Abiola and will be the debut film of director and Leigh-Anne’s childhood friend, Tash Gaunt.

The one-hour documentary is streaming online NOW via BBC Three here. The documentary will also air on TV on BBC One at 9PM on Thursday, 13 May.

The one-hour film will be available to watch online for at least the next year.

The BBC reveal: “Leigh-Anne embarks on her own, very personal journey, to understand how she can use her platform and privilege to combat the profound racism she sees in society around her.

“After she takes on this, her biggest and most important mission yet, news of George Floyd’s death and Black Lives Matter protests begin to sweep the world.

“With the force of a global movement now behind her, Leigh-Anne confronts those closest to her and attempts to bring difficult conversations about black representation right to the top of the music industry.

“With no-holds-barred access to one third of the world’s biggest girl band, we join Leigh-Anne with her Little Mix bandmates behind the scenes, at home with her professional footballer fiancée Andre Gray and with fellow pop stars, politicians and podcasters as she opens up an all-important conversation about race.

“Leigh-Anne takes a look at the complexities and impact of unconscious bias, racial stereotyping and colourism both in and away from the public eye.”

Those featuring in the documentary include Alexandra Burke, NAO, Raye and Keisha Buchanan from the Sugababes as well as MP Dawn Butler Beyonce’s Creative Director Frank Gatson.

Fiona Campbell, Controller, BBC Three, added: “We are constantly having conversations about race and discrimination and how we can cover it on BBC Three in a way that can contribute to making positive and permanent change.

“This is a film we commissioned a few months ago and the start of filming with Leigh-Anne has coincided with the tragic death of George Floyd and the current protests and debates which have brought these issues into sharper focus for her, for Britain and the world.

“By working with high profile talent like Leigh-Anne, and other important individuals she will meet through this process, we hope the honest conversations this film will feature will have the power to change attitudes, offer insight and help to prevent racism in our society.”
