Kilimanjaro: The Bigger Red Nose Climb line up revealed

The line up of celebrities climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief have been revealed.

BBC bosses previously confirmed a repeat of their 2009 trip up the iconic mountain.

A decade ago, stars including Girls Aloud’s Cheryl and Kimberley Walsh, radio DJ Fearne Cotton, Boyzone’s Ronan Keating ascended up Africa’s highest peak for charity.

They were joined by TV presenter Ben Shepard, Take That’s Gary Barlow, radio DJ Chris Moyles, actress and singer Denise Van Outen plus Britain’s Got talent judge Alesha Dixon.

Ten years on and a second trip has taken place for 2019’s Comic Relief special.

Joining them are BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, Pointless host Alexander Armstrong, NFL star Osi Umenyiora plus Little Mix’s Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock

The stars started ascending the mountain in February with their journey documented each morning on BBC Breakfast and each night on The One Show as the challenge happened.

They made it to the summit successfully on the morning of March 1.

Kilimanjaro: The Bigger Red Nose Climb air date

On Wednesday 13th March on BBC One at 9PM, an hour-long documentary will reveal the full story of the team’s triumphs and turmoils.

It’ll follow the celebs as they share tents, laughs and tears during their exhausting eight-day trek, climbing 19,000ft together.

Cameras reveal all the drama up close and personal – the highs, lows, twists and turns and moments of delirium as the inexperienced climbers adjust to their basic camping conditions, new climbing companions, extreme temperatures and debilitating altitude sickness.

The climb is raising money as part of Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day 2019, which will take place on Friday, 15 March.

The original special in 2009 was watched by over 8 million viewers on BBC One and raised more than £3 million for Comic Relief.

Meanwhile, the Celebrity Apprentice is another show that returned for a new series in 2019, also in support of Comic Relief.

Those taking part on the line up included new X Factor judge Ayda Williams, the wife of Robbie Williams, plus Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden and singer turned TV presenter Rylan Clark-Neal.

Also competing were Boris Johnson’s sister and recent Celebrity Big Brother housemate Rachel Johnson, comedian Omid Djalili, TV presenter Richard Arnold and stand up Russell Kane.

Joining them were designer Kelly Hoppen, EastEnders star Tameka Empson and one-time England manager Sam Allardyce.
