James Arthur says he’d love to join The X Factor as a judge.
The 2012 winner will return to the stage tonight to sing in the latest results show.
But he’s eyeing up a potentially bigger role, saying he’d “absolutely love” to be a part of the panel like One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson.
James praised Louis on the current series, saying: “I think Louis Tomlinson especially has been a breath of fresh air because he’s not about the puns and the showbiz one-liners, he’s genuinely saying I don’t think this is great for a technical reason.”
“I’ve actually enjoyed this year, maybe more than previous years because I like to see the judges giving unpopular criticism sometimes. Actual critique,” he added.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, James said he’d be more than up for joining the show himself.
However, he’s not sure if he’d be popular with viewers.
James said: “I would absolutely love to do it, whether it’s on the UK X Factor or another show, I would love to do that one time.
“I don’t know if I’d be popular though because if I’m not moved by something, I’m not going to pretend. I’d be along the same lines as Louis in terms of the sort of feedback I’d give.”
He added: “Robbie, Simon and Ayda are good this year, they’re following suit. I think Simon always gives slightly unpopular opinion.”
James will appear on The X Factor 2018 live tonight from 8:30PM on ITV, singing new single Empty Space.
He’ll be joined by Louis’ One Direction bandmate Liam Payne, who will be performing his new song Polaroid.
As well as the guest appearances, two more acts will head home in the latest double eviction.
